Biography

Hailing from Halifax and splitting his time between Mahone Bay and Los Angeles, Mullane, a previous CMVA winner in 2024, has carved a global career rooted in authenticity and melody. Having released five full length albums, his track record includes multiple Top 40 Billboard radio singles in Canada and the U.S., with hits like “My New American Girl” breaking into the Top 40 on the U.S. Hot AC chart. His music has also soundtracked major moments, from NBC’s Olympic Games coverage to prime-time TV and film placements — proof that his songs connect across audiences and borders and a perfect reminder of why Mullane continues to be one of Canada’s most consistently compelling voices in modern rock, pop and country music.

The Josie Music Awards, the premier event in the Independent Music Industry, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with live, in-person ceremonies on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the CMA Theater in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, followed by an event on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the Grand Ole Opry, both in Nashville, Tennessee. The Josie Music Awards provide a platform for independent artists to achieve recognition and realize their dreams in a highly competitive industry. The awards are overseen by founders and hosts Tinamarie Passantino and Josie Passantino-Boone, with a panel of experts determining the nominations.

Jon Mullane’s recent successes include a win at the California Music Video & Film Awards, where he was named Best Male Solo Artist for his surfside anthem, “The Sun in the Summertime.” Directed by Martin Noel, the video is a nostalgic tribute to California’s coastal culture, blending mid-century iconography with Mullane’s dynamic performance.

Co-written with Jim Gelcer, “The Sun in the Summertime” is featured on Mullane’s 2023 EP, “California,” a homage to his time in Los Angeles. Jon Mullane Unveils Soul-Stirring Single « Walking Away »– A Powerful Anthem on Overcoming Life’s Struggles

I already had a music track and a title in mind for the collaboration ‘Walking Away,’ which he liked. We discussed the songs’ meaning and message, and both agreed it would convey the powerful pull of addiction to something that is not good/harmful in life but is so hard to walk away from, » Mullane shared.

Atlantic Canadian recording artist Jon Mullane has won the award for Best Male Solo Artist at the 2024 California Music Video & Film Awards. The video will be also spotlighted on the Summer of 2024 on TasteTV’s television series, MUSIC CALIFORNIA, and on SHORT FILMS ON, both appearing on various PBS-affiliate public television stations across the United States.

The retro beach inspired video for The Sun in the Summertime was shot on Bayswater Beach in Nova Scotia. Directed by Martin Noel, the crew managed to shoot in amongst the wildfires that were going in Nova Scotia at the time.

The video and single, included on Jon’s current EP California harken back to a simpler time, invoking good feelings of care free summers on the beach.

The Sun in the Summertime single has garnered adds on multiple commercial radio stations in Canada and Europe.

Lead single ‘The Sun in the Summertime’ is an example of that inspiration – “I’ve always aspired to write a summertime ‘anthem’ since I was in my teens, a time where we always had a song of the summer on the radio that became a part of the fabric of our lives and life experiences, creating vivid images of surf, sand and drivin’ around. Living in LA brought out that feeling.” Jon, a long time Beach Boys fan, channels their vibe on this fun, good times single. And a close ‘6 degrees of separation’ relationship enhanced that, as he worked with singer/songwriter/producer Rob Bonfiglio writing songs and Rob playing guitar in Jon’s LA band. Coincidentally, Rob is the musical director for Wilson Phillips and his spouse, Carnie Wilson, is Brian Wilson’s daughter. He currently also tours with Brian Wilson.

A ‘retro beach inspired’ music video for the song is set for release on June 21, 2023.

‘Walking Away,’ with its country, roots rock tinged feel was co-written in Los Angeles with acclaimed songwriter/producer Michael Jay, who’s had numerous cuts on albums from Celine Dion, Kylie Minogue and who wrote and produced the #1 worldwide Billboard hit ‘Toy Soldiers’ by Martika.

After a suggestion from LA producer Ken Rose (Alan Parsons) that he cover one of Neil Diamond’s songs because they share similar vocal characteristics, Mullane chose ‘Hello Again,’ and transformed it into a heartfelt feel good take on the former #3 Billboard Neil Diamond classic. Truly unique in it’s approach, it’s a production and arrangement that Jon claims as his own.

‘Right Here,’ the final track on the EP has a Beatlesque/Raspberries vibe that harkens back to simpler, melody-driven songs. Co-written and arranged with talented songwriter and friend Dale Effren in Hollywood, California.
